Organization of Club:

The Kiwanis Club of Newton Kansas was officially organized on March 14, 1939, with the original Charter Banquet held on Wednesday night of April 26, 1939 at the Ripley Hotel in Newton.

The organization of the club had begun some months before, with members from the Wichita Club coming to Newton to visit with local businessmen and college officials. In early 1939, Mr. Warren Olson, a "field" man (presumably from Kiwanis International) arrived to talk to Newton businessmen, and found out they were ready to go ahead with a local club.

Invitations were sent to all clubs within 100 miles. There were 250 Kiwanians in attendance, including 65 from the Wichita Club. The El Dorado, Augusta, and Hutchinson Clubs also made presentations.

Following the presentations, banquet attendees danced to the music of Jimmy Jackson and his Orchestra.
